JPG Legal Seeks Associate Attorney (Nationwide, Remote)

0-2 Years of Experience Preferred. Salary Range: $75,000 to $90,000.

Small trademark law firm with offices in New York City and Phoenix looking for fully remote full-time associate attorney with 0-2 years of experience, primarily to handle federal trademark clearance search and filing work. The associate may live anywhere in the country, and possibly outside of the country.

Bar Requirements:

1. The associate must have a bar license in any U.S. state/territory or be less than a month away from being sworn in, with a scheduled swearing in date;    

and    

2. If the associate is not licensed in Arizona, they must have a Universal Bar Exam (UBE) score of 270 or higher or have been practicing law for five years in a state that has reciprocity with Arizona, and be willing to get sworn into the Arizona bar at the firm’s expense within one year of starting work at the firm.    

About this job:

● The salary range is $75,000 to $90,000 depending on relevant experience, plus a small yearly bonus.

● Fully remote position. Associate will officially be working out of the Arizona office, hence the requirement to swear into the Arizona Bar if not licensed there already.

● Flexible, reasonable hours. No billable hour requirement because we charge flat fees for our legal services; we generally don’t bill by the hour or track our time. Almost no external meetings, few phone calls. We almost never have video meetings with clients and we do our best to avoid scheduling any phone calls with clients because we prefer email. The few calls we do have with clients are typically unscheduled. One 1:1 video meeting with supervisor every week or two after associate gets settled in.

● Four weeks of all-purpose paid time off. 100% 401(k) match up to 4% after probationary period. Health insurance reimbursement (equivalent to the full price of an individual silver plan on Arizona’s health exchange) and parental leave.

● This is an entry-level or junior position so we will show you how we perform trademark searches and filings. All of your work will be reviewed for the first few months until you get the hang of our processes. After training, you will be given substantial work early on. The work will be interesting and varied because our clients operate in virtually every industry.

● JPG Legal is an online trademark law firm that primarily serves entrepreneurs and small businesses who find and hire JPG Legal online. About 40% of our clients are based in foreign countries. We handle searches, applications, office action responses, renewals, and the early stages of oppositions and cancellations.

Requirements:

● Bar license: see bar requirements at the top of this listing.

● Trademark experience or demonstrated interest in intellectual property law strongly preferred.

● Proficiency or fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required. About 98% of our clients communicate with us in English, but a few prefer to communicate in Spanish (mainly by email). Fluency in any other widely spoken language is also a plus.

● An affinity for computers and technology is preferred.

● Strong everyday writing skills and a good attention to detail are important for this position. Before we extend an offer, you may need to complete a short, informal writing assignment, which you will be compensated for. Bluebook-style writing skills are not required at this firm.
